One of the first things I learned in NLP, neuro linguistic programming is what filtering is. It’s like if you go to Google or Yahoo and type in ’17 Mile Drive’ you’ll get thousands of articles, pictures and resources for that location. What we often for get is that WE as individuals control what we filter for. So whatever your filtering for in life you’ll find. Some people search for love and find it, some search for heart break and they find it. The curious thing about that is people don’t consciously know they’re searching for heart break, but they are, read on to find out why.
When I say, don’t think of a blue elephant, what do you see? A blue elephant… Your brain does not know how to fully picture the word ‘not’ so it pictures, a blue elephant. The same is true for weight loss “I don’t want a big but” your brain pictures a big butt. Also for not living pay check to pay check – Your brain see’s “paycheck to paycheck”.
What do you want in your minds eye?
This is a very powerful tool and should be noted while first learning the principals dealing with quantum physics. It’s easy to learn… just focus on what images you want to create more of – healthy strong thighs and massive bank accounts, anything that is a positive. This is why vision boards are so popular and highly suggested by a lot of motivational people.
The energy behind words like: get out of debt, losing 10 lbs and I just want to survive… are all considered “AWAY” from language, these draw you away from what you want. The energy behind words like: wealth creation, physically satisfied, healthy, vitality and I want to give back to my community, are all considered “TOWARD” motivated language and will catapult you towards your hearts desires. When you use AWAY from motivation, the motivation will stop once you hit your goal and you will soon find yourself back where you started (ie the yo-you diet and living pay check to paycheck). When you use toward motivated language, your motivation remains constant to create what you want. If you always strive to be healthy & strong, your motivation doesn’t just stop once your butt is small, your motivation will always be there.
Imagine if every day you were filtering for success, for love, for people who are paying it forward, for happiness. I’m guilty of having seasons where all I can think about is the problem, the depressing side of it, the reasons it wont work. I’m so thankful I learned I can search for what I want. I know that the days I look for ways to be healthy, ways to love my family better, ways to succeed, ways to solve things, I’m much happier.
Blue Elephant Exercise:
List out 15 things you want to experience. Make sure when you write them, they are TOWARD what you want. For example, most will say I want to lose weight and the problem with that is once you lose weight, you’ll stop focusing on it and fall away again. It’s more powerful and TOWARD to say, “I want to experience more energy each day.” Trust me, as you have more energy, the weight will fall off.
Once you’ve written your 15 things you want to experience, you’ll have a new visual of what you will start working towards, maintaining and soon being able to help others with. I believe the dreamosity way is to set goals, and then get and keep the goals long term.
